an Assistant Editor (f/m) in Weinheim, and in Berlin
As an Assistant Editor for Wiley’s materials science, polymer, and physics journals, which include leading titles such as Advanced Materials, Small, and Macromolecular Rapid Communications, you will gain on-the-job experience in many different aspects of publishing. You will be involved in activities including the acquisition and development of journal and magazine content (both print and online), peer review management, the commercial development of journal services, and interaction with authors and referees from all over the world. You will also contribute to the content and development of our news site Materials Views.
Applicants for the position should have a broad interest in chemistry, materials science, polymer science, physics, and life sciences, preferably with a PhD in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related field. Applicants must be self-motivated, have excellent organizational, time management and communication skills (written and verbal), be diplomatic, and be flexible. Familiarity with text and graphics computer applications as well as social media and web editing tools, including experience with XML and HTML editing, is required. Applicants should have a good understanding of the peer review process (for example, having been previously involved as an editor, author, or reviewer). Previous experience with journal and manuscript handling systems would be an advantage. Excellent command of the English language is required; fluency in German and previous publishing/scientific news writing experience would be advantageous.
